Look Up & Make A Wish! Spectacular Meteor Shower in Upstate NY
Something spectacular is happening this weekend in Upstate New York. Look up at the night sky and you could be making many wishes during this meteor shower.
The best place to watch the Eta Aquariids is in the Southern Hemisphere but that doesn't mean you won't see a celestial show in the night sky this weekend. You may have to make sure you can find a spot that is the best for viewing.
When Will The Meteor Shower Appear?
On Saturday night May 4th into the early morning hours of Sunday, May 5th, you will have to find a spot away from city lights to see a few shooting stars. The Adirondacks would be an ideal spot.
What Is The Eta Aquariids Meteor Shower?
When the Earth passes through a debris field of Halley's Comet, the Eta Aquariids meteor shower occurs. The Earth passes through this debris field and orbits the sun every seventy-six years. According to the American Meteor Society, some experts predict that this year’s meteor shower will be strong because of the particles interacting with Jupiter.
You may have to be a bit patient but you still could see up to thirty meteors per hour if conditions are fairly clear. That's a lot of wishes to make.
So, grab a warm blanket and get ready for a celestial show that's worth staying up for! Who knows, you might just witness a shooting star or two streaking across the Upstate NY night sky.
