Winter Storm Watch Issued For Parts of Upstate NY For Weekend Snow
While the Capital Region can expect mostly rain this weekend, surrounding areas will see winter weather return this weekend.
Old Man Winter has been pretty quiet this year, but he ain't giving up! Winter 2023-24 is pacing to be one of our warmest on record and snowfall has been well below average. Those snowfall totals are expected to see a little boost this weekend in some areas.
National Weather Service Issue Winter Storm Watch
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch fron Satruday afternoon through Monday evening for several areas in Upstate New York including Northern Herkimer, Hamilton, Northern Warren, Northern Fulton, and Western Windham Counties.
The NWS forecast is calling for heavy wet snow with accumulations of 7 inches or more. Precipitation will start as a rain-snow mix Saturday afternoon switching to a heavy wet snow Saturday night into Sunday. Snow in these areas will continue through Sunday and will taper off early Monday.
Capital Region Weekend Forecast
In the greater Albany area and Capital Region, WNYT News Channel 13 is calling for rain Saturday afternoon and evening with highs in the mid-40s, with scattered rain and snow showers on Sunday with highs again in the mid-40s.
