Upstate New York County To Place A Cap On Gas Prices This Summer
I'm definitely not the first to tell you, but gas prices have gotten ridiculous lately. Obviously, there's a reason behind it, but it's still not easy to navigate.

We need fuel to get to and from our jobs, which give us more money to pay for fuel. As that cost rises, we take less and less home. Now, one New York county is standing up to this...

Gas Cap
On Tuesday, April 7th, Onondaga County voted and approved a Gas Cap, or maximum price for gas in the county. This new rule will ensure that gas across the county will get no more expensive than $4 a gallon, and caps the county's tax collection on it at 16 cents on the gallon.
Unfortunately, this won't go into effect immediately. It still needs approval at the state level, which will be determined on June 1st of this year. Adding to that, it's only planned to last until August 31st, effectively only running through the summer.
How Does This Help?
Okay aside from the obvious "it's cheaper" angle, this will have massive effects on the county's agriculture industry. Farmers famously use a lot of diesel to help their operations, and with that included in this Gas Cap, they'll be able to cut costs and keep their products cheaper.
While this hasn't been completely approved yet, it shows us that there is a way to keep prices lower for Upstate New York residents. Let's hope the rest of the state follows suit sooner rather than later.
