This Pandemic Is A Turkey: Thanksgiving Gatherings Discouraged
First Halloween, and now it looks like you may want to rethink your Thanksgiving plans due to the pandemic.
We are all so fatigued at this point from dealing with the coronavirus pandemic since March. I know you can really use a great holiday gathering with family and friends to lift your spirits, but the Governor is encouraging New Yorkers to use caution for Thanksgiving.
According to a Times Union story, Governor Cuomo said he would advise New Yorkers to not have any gatherings for turkey day to protect family and friends, and that he will celebrate "virtually."
Now obviously with the immediate people that you live with you can certainly hold a safe Thanksgiving feast. But having your extended family and friends over may not be the best idea this year. Ultimately, it is up to you and your family. But, you could also look at it this way: there are several perks to not having everyone over this year!
- Your drunk Uncle won't empty your liquor cabinet
- You can drink gravy right from the boat
- You can eat your meal in front of the TV while watching football
- You won't be relegated to the kids' table when too many people come over
- Most importantly - more turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing for you!
I could go on and on here. But I think the key takeaway is to stay safe this year and just look to make the best out of a less than an ideal time in our lives. No matter what the situation, there are always bright spots to be found. I'm sure if you think about it, you can also find many benefits to a low-key Thanksgiving this year.
