Corinne in Clifton Park went for her usual walk on Tuesday evening, but out of nowhere, she felt the urge to switch things up.

"Something told me to go a different way than usual - actually behind a business that's closed," she explained.

We may never know who or what told her to take on a different path, but I know of one lucky little critter, quite thankful she did because "no one would have found the little guy in time otherwise!"

Walking her spontaneously different route, Corinne also saw something near a trash bin that she'd never seen before and went in to get a closer look.

That's when she saw a hungry squirrel - it's head poking out of a dumpster behind Capital Dental Arts, 601 Bruno Rd in Clifton Park.

This head-scratching, dumpster-diving dilemma must have occurred when the critter, trying to satisfy its cravings for some cuisine, accidentally got caught in the 3-inch drainage hole at the corner of the dumpster.

Corinne snapped a few pics of the snared scavenger and posted them to What's Happening Saratoga, a hyper-local Facebook group that discusses neighborly things in Saratoga County.

Within "seconds," Corinne said, she was able to get the number for Clifton Park Animal Control who came right away and attempted to free the little guy.

"They showed up lickety-split," she said, "put a towel over his head so he wouldn't be so scared, and (an)officer,  called a few rescue volunteers to see if they wanted to go in a dumpster!"

Once they found a rescue volunteer to dive in after "Chip" (named by Corinne's 11-year-old daughter) they were able to get him out, give him a little TLC, and help Chip enough for a release back into the wild.

Not sure if HIPPA laws prevent them from disclosing where he is now, but Corinne told me that animal rescue assured her "he'll be staying in a 5-star facility just until his ears heal up!"
