The Safe Act’s Recertification Law For Your Pistol License Is Now In Effect In New York
I do not have a pistol licence but I came across a well written article by Lauren Linder of News 10 and it made me a little concerned the many of my listeners that and may not even know this new law has gone into effect. It seems that if you do not recertify you may lose your license. After seeing how hard it is to actually get your pistol permit in the first place, I would hate to see that happen.
It all stems from the Safe Act which was passed in 2013 but the pistol re certification only went into effect last Tuesday. In the article it says, "According to the Safe Act, those issued a license before January 15, 2013 must recertify their permit by January 31, 2018. Those issued a license on or after January 15, 2013 will have to recertify five years after the date it was issued."
The article also went on to say that you can actually recertify on line, or at your local police station, however law enforcement has been a bit overwhelmed by the influx of questions and requests so I recommend doing it online.
