literacy

i saw very touching story in the Times Union this morning .  A very concerned and dedicated (retired) Capital Region teacher is putting out a call for children's books to be sent to our troops in Afghanistan.  I wanted to see if I could spread the word here.

Just a quick thought here as I attempt to compose this article this morning.  I am getting sick of  phones and software that auto-correct everything you do.   I am totaly ovr it, aren't you?  Do you think it speeds you up?  Quite the kontrary.

Well, here goes yet another blog - typed out in New Times Roman font.  I never even THINK about writing in cursive anymore, do you?  Who cares anyway?  It's a waste to even teach it, right?  Maybe, and maybe not:

I love it when I can bring the Reading, Writing, and Rhyming School Tour to a classroom just as history is being made.  A 4th grade student from Poestenkill wrote a story about a two tailed dragon, and now it's going to become a play that gets the entire class involved - and they'd now like to tell you about it in song.

Once again, I experienced a 24-hour period where I couldn't wipe the smile off my face.  It happened right after I visited Slingerlands Elementary School. These kids love to read and SING - what a perfect fit for the Reading, Writing and Rhyming Tour.
