High School Hunger Games

Personally, being involved in so many charities here at GNA like The High School Hunger Games and just donating to local food drives around the capital region, you want to assume it's all going to be used in the most effective way possibly but how do you know?

3 years ago I had a crazy idea to take local high schools and pin them against each other to see which school could collect the most non perishable food items.  Because of the frenzy around the Hunger Games movies, we'd call it WGNA's High School Hunger Games...

Thanks to our 11 participating schools, we've collected more than 15,000 lbs. of food this year for our High School Hunger Games competition, making that more than 50,000 lbs. to be donated to hungry people in the Capital Region from the past three years we've been doing this great program.

The Mr. Ballstonian contest was the other night at Ballston Spa High School and Kyle and I dropped by for a little visit! Everyone at the high school was so welcoming and kind!  I was excited to see how much food they had collected so far...

From what I understand, Cairo Durham is pretty confident with their chances at winning WGNA's 3rd Annual High School Hunger Games! And, when I was there a couple of weeks ago, they did have quite a bit of food! I have to say, I love confidence when it comes to our competing schools...

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of helping out at Waterford High School for their Homecoming Pep Rally!  They invited me to come check out all the awesome school spirit they have! And while they are a small school, they sure are mighty...

On my tour through all of the 11 schools participating in our High School Hunger Games, my latest stop was 2 time chapions, Norte Dame Bishop Gibbons!  The 'GNA crew and I got to play some music for their Haunted House and it was spooky and scary and fun and awesome...

I like to check in with the schools who are participating in our 3rd Annual High School Hunger Games, just to make sure that their collection is going well and that they have everything they need. So, when I got an email from South Colonie High School last week with a couple of pictures attached I was excited to see how they were doing...

Did you know that in 2013, there were 49.1 million Americans that were unsure of where or when they'd find their next meal? It's something so many of us take for granted: food; a warm meal. That's why the 3rd Annual Capital Region High School Hunger Games is so important, especially as the holidays approach.

For the third year in a row, WGNA wants to see which high school can gather the most non-perishable food in WGNA's Capital District High School Hunger Games!

WGNA’s 3rd Annual Capital District High School Hunger games are almost here! Throughout October we’ll be teaming up with Morris Ford to help collect non-perishable food items for The Food Pantries for The Capital District and we need YOUR help...

And the winner of our annual High School Hunger Games this year is... Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons.. again!
