Why would Amazon open a physical store? Amazon's Director of Physical Stores, Drew Sheriff tells Times Union, "People love the opportunity to feel and touch products." The Wall Street Journal reported in 2019 on the flip from being a threat to malls to possibly saving them by being a tenant.

More retail stores are set to close due to a major loss in revenue due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now Gap and Banana Republic have announced they will be closing triple the stores that they previously announced.

Many anchor stores are closing in malls across the country. In order to fill these spaces, it looks like an Amazon store may be filling this void. Rumor is that an Amazon store will open in a mall in the Capital Region.

Crossgates Mall confirmed in a press release that gun shots were fired in an "unfortunate and isolated incident" earlier this afternoon.

Our local malls have been eagerly anticipating the go ahead from the state to reopen.

It goes without saying that the pandemic has been an absolute killer for many local businesses. While some places in the Capital Region have had a chance to begin the slow road to recovery, Crossgates Mall has not. And they're not particularly thrilled with the state's decision to keep them closed.

Opening up for Phase Three in the Capital Region includes indoor dining but the thirty plus restaurants at Crossgates Mall aren't allowed to open and they aren't happy about it. They feel they are being treated unfairly and are ready to re-open.

While many retail stores are now free to open for in store shopping, some Crossgates Mall stores are still waiting for the go ahead.

The governor has issued that parts of various indoor businesses across the state close due to the coronavirus. Governor Cuomo announced that amusement parks, shopping malls, and bowling alleys will temporarily close. This will be effective Thursday at 8 pm.

Back in November, there were rumblings of a Costco being built near Crossgates Mall. Now it looks like we may be one step closer to that becoming a reality.
