Stillwater Mayor Arrested For Child Pornogaphy

The village of Stillwater; recognized as the turning point of the American Revolution and known for it's friendly and proud citizens, suffered a major blow today as this dreadful news has spread throughout the Capital Region.  Stillwater's mayor, Rick Nelson, was arrested and now faces unthinkable charges of child pornography.

Rick Nelson was elected to his first term as village Mayor in March 2015. The Times Union reports that the 62-year-old was arrested after the trooper's Computer Crime Unit launched an investigation of the possibility a Stillwater IP address was being used to download child pornography. 

The investigation led to a search of Nelson home and his subsequent arrest after police said they linked him to downloaded photographs containing sexual images containing a child. Nelson was charged with one felony count each of promoting a sexual performance by a child and possessing a sexual performance by a child. Nelson is married and the couple has a son.
