There is a special buzz around the Mechanicville High School girls basketball team. They have just accomplished something that hasn't been done in thirty years. I know this because I was part of that original team. Sports have been such a huge part of my upbringing and who I am and it all started as a Red Raider at Mechanicville High School. Now this group of girls has won a Section 2 title in basketball that hasn't been done since I was a junior in high school myself in 1989.

It's great to reminisce about the good 'ol days but it's even cooler to understand how awesome of an accomplishment it is for these girls. Just like when I went to Mechanicville, most of these athletes play more than one sport. The majority of them also accomplished a ton as soccer players.

I also love the fact that some of these girl's moms were on the championship teams with me. It's awesome to see it come full circle to understand what our parents were feeling and experiencing with us as players.

The best part, though, is how the entire city of Mechanicville gets behind all of the athletes and makes you feel so loved and supported.

So I am forever a Red Raider and want to wish them good luck tonight as they take on Northeastern Clinton at 6pm in Plattsburgh. Let's go Raiders!!
