Schenectady Police Find Dog Badly Abused
On Sunday afternoon, the Schenectady Police said they received information from a city resident about a dog found on Eastern Parkway and McClellan Street in Scenectady the night before.
Once police arrived at the scene, officers said they found the dog in rough condition.
According to police, she was underweight and suffering from severe wounds to her face and ears, where one ear appeared to have been intentionally cut off.
Police say that she was immediately taken to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, where she is receiving care as police try to find the person responsible for such a heinous crime.
Named "Lavender" by the MHHS
Schenectady Police say she's under the watchful care of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and has been named Lavender by the staff.
Police are asking the public for assistance in the investigation. Anyone with information should contact the Schenectady Police Department’s Detective Division at 518-382-5245 or their Tips Line at 518-788-6566.
Justice for Lavender
While Lavender continues to heal from her emotional and physical trauma, members of the Mohawk Hidson Humane Society are raising money for her and other animals who have suffered neglect and abuse through a donation page on their website.
Here, in part, is what they wrote:
This sweet girl has suffered so much. Incredibly, Lavender has been friendly, gentle, and loving. Your gift will go directly to our Animal Cruelty Fund, helping support care and our push for justice for Lavender and other animals like her. Thank you for your generous support.
What To Do If You Witness Animal Cruelty
If you witness animal cruelty or believe an animal is in danger, report the matter immediately to local law enforcement and your local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or other humane enforcement agencies.

Over a decade ago, the Albany County Animal Abuser Registry was created by an act of the Albany County Legislature known as Local Law K. The registry, hosted by the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, is a service to the public.
The following people seen on this list have been convicted of animal cruelty. While it's unclear exactly what they're guilty of, one thing is clear: They are not allowed to own, possess, reside in, have custody of, or intentionally engage in physical contact with any animal.
Period.
