Pickleball fans in the Capital Region have a new place to play, and it is opening just in time for winter. It will open this week in Saratoga County.

FryeGuys Pickleball Club is set to open December 19th inside a warehouse space in Clifton Park, about three miles west of Exit 9 of the Northway.

According to the Albany Business Review, the idea comes from owner Steve Frye, who picked up pickleball after retiring from teaching, right before the pandemic. What started as a fun way to stay active quickly turned into a routine with a tight group of friends.

Over time, Frye realized there might be room for something more. He decided it would be nice to have his own place to play, one that could be fun, welcoming, and able to support itself without trying to become a massive operation.

Turning that idea into reality took patience. Frye spent nearly two years searching for the right space. A new build facility was too expensive, and finding a warehouse with high enough ceilings and usable floor space was a challenge. After looking everywhere from near Glens Falls down to Clifton Park, he finally landed on a property at 1319 Route 146 in 21st Century Park.

The finished space includes three pickleball courts spread across 9,000 square feet, with room for about 12 to 15 players at a time. Upgrades also include bathrooms, a changing room, an office, storage, and new HVAC.

FryeGuys will offer several membership options, along with lessons, leagues, and tournaments. Nearly 70 people have already signed up. Court reservations will be handled through the CourtReserve booking platform.

The new club joins a growing pickleball scene in the Capital Region, alongside newer spots like True Pickleball Club in Latham and Picklers Pickleball Club in Menands.
