New York State Police are starting their week-long campaign targeting speeders, aggressive drivers and distracted drivers!

"Speed Week," as the State Police call it, runs from Aug. 6 through Aug. 12. Police say you can expect to see more troopers and unmarked patrol vehicles on major highways during this campaign.

In addition to speeders and aggressive drivers, phone talkers and texters (I can't believe people still do this) will also be targeted. Those who are not in seatbelts and those who don't pay attention to the "Move Over Law" are also at risk for tickets.

According to the State Police, speed remains one of the leading causes of fatalities on roadways, and according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 42,000 people die as the result of traffic crashes each year.

Bottom line: be safe and attentive this week. You have been warned!

Last year, thousands were ticketed in "Speed Week."  Don't be one of those this year! Tell your friends too!
