New York State Police have announced a statewide crackdown to make our roads safer.

The NY State Police have announced from today through April 16 they will be aggressively ticketing during a statewide crackdown on distracted driving. This initiative is part of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Troopers will be honing in on drivers using their phones while operating a motor vehicle. And this is a worthy effort.

According to a police press release, over 3,400 people were killed in 2016 because of accidents stemming from distracted driving! So you can imagine our Troopers are taking this initiative very seriously! And guess what - the fines are steep if you get caught, ,as much as $250 for a first offense!

So save yourself the aggravation of a fine, and possibly the serious implications of an accident, by putting your phone down. That text can wait! Just turn up GNA on your radio to keep you from getting distracted by those text alerts! :)
