Crowds have missed casinos and casinos have certainly missed crowds.  Two of the more prominent casinos in the Northeast, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, opened their doors on Monday in Connecticut.  Turning Stone Resort Casino is planning for a June 10th opening.  Closer to home, Rivers Casino and Resort in Schenectady is preparing for what they believe may happen in about a month.

Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos in Connecticut opened their doors on Monday with enhanced safety measures including temperature checks and mandatory face masks worn by guests and employees at all times.  According to their websites, specific social distancing guidelines require there be a space between slot machines and a smaller number of players with be allowed at table games.  Both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun have suspended poker rooms as well as their respective bingo and sportsbook operations till further notice.

Turning Stone Casino has had their Safer Now plan in place for a few weeks as they anticipate a reopening on June 10th.  Only guests that live within a 120 mile radius will be allowed into the casino.  Unlike Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, Turning Stone will be operating bingo and poker rooms.  The TS sportsbook (among other things) will not be open.

Meanwhile, closer to home, Rivers Casino remains optimistic that their time is coming. It is believed that they will be included in Phase 4 of the governor's plan to reopen the state.  That would land them sometime in early July.

Gamers all over the Capital Region have inquired about what may or may not be open in terms of slot machines and table games but nothing has been officially announced by Rivers.  Most likely, similar to the Connecticut casinos and Turning Stone, slot machines will be spaced out, all guests will have to wear masks, and table games (ie: blackjack) will have less participants.  The Saratoga Casino and Hotel also is in a holding pattern.

In the meantime, poker players/casino players in general in the Capital Region will have to wait.  According to one poker dealer who I messaged who works at Rivers Casino, little information is known and she told me that they have yet to hear anything.
