New Yorkers Can Get Heating Assistance
The weather is getting colder and that means heating bills will be rising. New York state has announced that applications are now being accepted. There are millions of dollars available in home heating assistance to help New Yorkers heat their homes this winter. According to News 10 ABC, three hundred seventy two million dollars will help the elderly and low and middle income families in New York State.
The governor's office says that the assistance is determined by income, how the homes are heated and the size of the household. In 2017, one point four million New Yorkers received heating assistance through the Home Energy Assistance Program.
To get an application for the program, you need to contact the local departments of social services. Click here to find which county departments handle your area. You can get your application starting today (November 13th) and they will be accepted starting January 2nd.
