New NY Gun Laws In Effect Today! Your Guns Are Prohibited Where?
Welcome to a new month! Time to celebrate Labor Day Weekend, get the kids ready to return to school and time to leave your guns at home. Starting today, Thursday September 1, 2022, your concealed weapon is no longer allowed in certain places here in New York State.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced a list of places, now known as 'sensitive locations', where firearms are prohibited, even if you have a concealed carry permit.
The NEW Concealed Carry Law takes effect in New York today and Governor Hochul's intention is to strengthen gun laws and keep New Yorkers safe.
In response to the Supreme Court's decision to strike down New York's century-old concealed carry law, we took swift and thoughtful action to keep New Yorkers safe," Governor Hochul said. "I refuse to surrender my right as Governor to protect New Yorkers from gun violence or any other form of harm. In New York State, we will continue leading the way forward and implementing common sense gun safety legislation.
The New York State Police Division of Criminal Justice reports that you do not need to take the firearm safety training if you just want a firearm in your home. The firearm safety training course requirement applies to concealed carry licenses.
In addition to the locations listed above, it is now prohibited to carry a firearm on public sidewalks and other public areas that are restricted from general public access for a limited time or special event.
