We have plenty of breweries in the area, so why not another winery?

We have an abundance of local breweries here in the Capital Region, so it is about time we got another spot for the wine lovers. According to a story from the Albany Business Review (ABR), plans are in the works to develop a winery on a 34-acre plot of land on Old Post Road in Malta, less than a mile from exit 13 of the Northway. The potential winery idea is a family business being put together by Steve Menneto of Halfmoon.

ABR says the proposed winery would feature an on-site vineyard and would use an existing structure on the property as a tasting/dining room for 80 people. The winery would also have an outdoor patio, space for food trucks, and actual production of the wine will be done off-site. The plans also include the construction of a new building to be utilized for events. The ABR report does not include a potential timetable for when the winery could be completed or open.

Wineries have become a pretty big deal in other areas of the state like the Hudson Valley and the Finger lakes, but we only have quick access to a few here in the Capital Region. It feels like we have a new brewery opening every other week, and distilleries seem to be catching fire as well with more and more popping up in the area. But finally, if you love a bottle of red or a bottle of white, it looks like you could soon have what seems like a cool destination to enjoy your beverage of choice.
