George Manias, the newly hired team president for Albany's new professional indoor lacrosse team has been down this road before.  Three years ago, he was one of the main cogs behind the resurrection of Arena Football here in the Capital Region.  With Manias at the helm, the Albany Empire had tremendous success on and off the field culminating with an AFL Championship in the Summer of 2019.  Can he pull off the same magic act with professional lacrosse?  I wouldn't bet against him.

Manias is sharp.  He knows what it takes to not only bring a winner here to Albany, but he knows that fans here in the Capital Region expect big things.  He wants the experience down at the Times Union Center to be just as exciting for lacrosse games as it was for Empire games.  It's a tall task, but it has to start somewhere and he's digging in.

For our new professional lacrosse team, it starts with a cool, new exciting team name. Known now as the "Albany Lacrosse Club" that will change before they make their TU Center debut in the Fall.

According to the press release sent out by the team,  the Albany NLL announced they'll be holding a contest to determine the new team name.  The  ‘Name the Team’ contest will give "Capital Region fans a chance to voice their input on the organization’s name, logo, and branding ahead of its inaugural season."

According to team sources, here's how it works:

"Fans can submit their ideas for the new team’s name via the team website at www.AlbanyNLL.com now through Sunday, February 28 at 12 p.m. Once the name submissions have been collected, the top six names will be open to a fan vote on the team website that will run through Friday, March 12 to determine the official name of the team."

The individual who submits the winning team name will get two season tickets for the inaugural 2021-22 season, a signed team jersey, memorabilia and more. \
