Nat’l Potato Chip Day-Stay In The Birthplace of The Potato Chip on Saratoga Lake
Today (March 14th) is National Potato Chip Day and most New Yorkers know that this amazing snack was invented in Saratoga Springs. Mary Ann Fitzgerald, a Saratoga Springs Historian, said that Moon's Lake House was where the potato chip was invented by accident. It was owned by Cary B. Moon on Saratoga Lake where it was the place to go for wealthy people in the mid-1800s. George Crum, a cook at Moon's Lake House was trying to appease an unhappy customer on August 24, 1853, and the potato chip was made.
