A spokesperson for the San Francisco-based store said that about 200 "underperforming" store locations will be closing while they open more of their sister brands.

Gap Inc is not releasing details about which exact locations they will be closing. Nationally, there are 834 Gap stores alone, along with sister companies Banana Republic (596 stores), and Athleta (138 stores) according to the Times Union. There's 68 stores in New York alone including those at Crossgates Mall, Colonie Center and in Saratoga Springs.

The company expects that the sales from their Old Navy and Athleta stores will more than keep the company surviving. They're hoping that by closing these stores, it will put even more of a focus on their other branches paired with the ever growing online and mobile sales. The company has already closed 175 last year and another 100 the year before that.

Again, no word yet if any of the Capital Region locations will be among those closed but if you have any Gap gift cards, you may want to use them up while we still have Gaps to shop in around here.
