More Local Help Heads To Puerto Rico
The American Red Cross has been helping all of those affected by all three hurricanes. Capital Region residents have been traveling to the affected areas and now more are being deployed to Puerto Rico. Since August 24th, 95 Red Cross workers from towns and cities in our area have been deployed to provide help in Florida, Texas, and Georgia. Today more local workers will go to the places affected by Hurricane Maria.
The U.S Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico were devastated after Hurricanes Irma and Maria hit just days apart. In the wake of Irma, disaster workers helped families with clothing, food and medicine while the Red Cross continued to gather relief supplies and put more volunteers in place.
Volunteers from the Capital Region fly out today to the hardest hit areas of Puerto Rico to help those in need. These responders will help distribute ready-to-eat meals and water on the islands. However, getting supplies to these areas remains difficult.
