Mechanicville Will go to Prom This June With Protocols

In a year like no other, high school seniors have missed out on a lot but it's nice to see that they will be able to celebrate at prom this June. My alma mater, Mechanicville High School is leading the way in ensuring that the seniors will have a night to remember.

Being a graduate of Mechanicville many years ago, I still have amazing memories of prom. It was a beautiful and magical evening celebrated with classmates and friends. The fun began when you were asked and now there are some elaborate promposals. In fact, just recently, a Mechanicville High School senior asked his girlfriend to prom by using the McDonald's marque in the center of the city.

It is so great to know that these seniors will be able to create lifelong memories and experience their senior prom during these strange and uncertain times. Governor Cuomo has allowed proms to be held but with some restrictions. Mechanicville Superintendent Bruce Potter said they plan on having their prom on June 4th, according to News 10 ABC.

There will be certain guidelines that will have to be followed. They will be having their prom at the Old Daley on Crooked Lake in Averill Park. They will have to cap prom at one hundred fifty people. Seniors will be offered tickets first and those who aren't vaccinated will have to have a negative COVID-19 test before attending the prom. Also, all promgoers must wear a mask during the event.

Superintendent Potter said:

These are the big things that kids remember and make memories of. So, we just want everyone to have a great time and appreciate the experience and stay safe.
