Major Makeover Coming to Largest Ski Area in New York State
The Adirondacks are filled with amazing ski resorts including the largest in all of New York state. We are lucky because it's just an hour north of the Capital Region. Gore Mountain has announced that it will be doing a major makeover over the next couple of years.
What Are The Current Challenges with Gore Mountain?
The Pipeline at Gore Mountain is a very long way to travel. It goes from the base of the mountain's North Chair and over to the Peaceful Valley trail at the Ski Bowl. If you ski that area, you are using your poles most of the time, and snowboarders have a tougher time getting through. It's a difficult trek.
How Will They Fix This Problem?
Next year, Gore Mountain will make a new trail from the top of the Burnt Ridge chair lift to help skiers and snowboarders to ride downhill and access the Ski Bowl. There will be a new four-person detachable chair that would be put in to replace the Hudson Chair. This will be a chair lift that is higher up the mountain that will access longer and new runs that Gore Mountain has had but been hard to access according to the Daily Gazette.
Where Is The Money Coming From and What else will be Done?
The Governor announced last month that Gore Mountain would receive thirty million dollars in development funds. This will also go to building a new trail from the top of Burnt Ridge to the base of the main mountain. This would allow skiers and snowboarders to bypass the Echo Trail. This trail is usually closed because it is the main race hill at Gore. It should be done by next season as well.
A New Lodge is Also Planned
Over ten years ago a fire destroyed the main lodge and a new facility is needed. The new lodge will be at the base of the Ski Bowl on the site of the original one. The new lodge will overlook the ski hill and have a large front deck, a dining area, rental and retail shops, and bathrooms. This will take more time to build. The hope is that it will be finished by summer 2023.
