The New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) was created in 1980 to oversee the facilities associated with the Olympics. They continue to make sure the facilities are purposefully reimagined to keep the communities and mountains enticing. Now they are involved in making a new ride at Gore mountain, the largest in the state.
The Adirondacks are filled with amazing ski resorts including the largest in all of New York state. We are lucky because it's just an hour north of the Capital Region. Gore Mountain has announced that it will be doing a major makeover over the next couple of years.
Needless to say, the weather conditions for the opening of ski & snowboarding season in the northeast has been less than ideal. The up and down weather temperatures combined with some ferocious rain storms have generated difficult snowmaking conditions. However, there are some awesome trails open out there and the next few days should be prime for snowmaking.
