Local Pet Center Raises Thousands for Harvey Animals
When a Capital Region Pet Center saw the devastation from Hurricane Harvey they decided to reach out to their customers and organize a way to help the furry victims.Ryan Kramer, the owner of Benson's Pet Center, saw the flooding and the devastation from the hurricane and new that the animals in the areas affected would need help for months. They organized a fundraiser asking their customers to open their hearts and wallets to give what they can at the registers to the Hurricane Harvey Fund.
The money will go directly to help the SPCA of Brazoria County, TX which is a no-kill shelter near Houston County. This is one of the hardest hit areas in the state. This particular shelter is currently caring for over a thousand animals while they wait for them to be reclaimed.
The Capital Region has been extremely generous. Since the fundraiser began on September 2nd, the total from all six Benson's Pet Centers is now over $11,000. The first check for $6,000 was hand delivered to the shelter on September 10th. The collection will continue through the end of the month.
