Changes Coming to Canada Street, Lake George

New owners have officially taken over one of the most recognizable spots in Lake George Village — and they’ve got big plans to transform it into a year-round destination.

According to reporting by LakeGeorge.com, Joe Mondella — co-owner of The Lagoon along with partners John Grillo and Mark French — has purchased the Village Mall on Canada Street after years of leasing space there.

From Tenants to Owners

The trio officially closed on the property on January 30th, 2026, turning their well-established restaurant home into a major investment in this gem of a property located in the heart of downtown Lake George.

According to the article, their vision centers around a full makeover of the property, supported in part by Downtown Revitalization Initiative funding. Plans include renovating both the Canada Street and lakeside facades, upgrading the building's overall look, and expanding The Lagoon to meet demand.

The restaurant is especially popular during the summer months, and ownership of the building will now allow them to create more seating and improve the guest experience.

Upgrades Include...

Future upgrades could include a third-floor deck with a bar and lakefront seating, expanded ground-level dining for larger groups, and winterization to allow year-round operation. Mondella says the goal is to make the space welcoming year-round, beyond the busy summer season, and to help strengthen Lake George as a true four-season destination.

Current tenants are expected to remain, and the new owners say collaboration with neighboring businesses will continue to be a key part of their approach as they invest in the future of the Village Mall and Lake George community.

There's no denying the absolute beauty and charm of Lake George; shout-out to this trio and their vision to keep an Upstate NY gem moving in the right direction.
