JC Penney to Close 130-140 Stores in 2017
Currently, J. C. Penney operates stores in Wilton, Clifton Park and Crossgates Mall. But that could be changing soon because the company says it will be closing anywhere from 130-140 stores and two distribution centers this year.
While there is no news yet about which stores will be closing, it's clear that Penney is in financial trouble. The company posted quarterly sales of $3.96 billion, down 0.9 percent from $3.99 billion a year ago.
Sears and Macy's along with other department stores are also being forced to close in the wake of the growing popularity of online shopping.
Personally I'm sad about this news! I love J. C. Penney and I'm not a huge fan of online shopping. I know people like the convenience of shopping from their couch, but every time a store closes I know more local jobs are being lost!
