It’s Been 3 Yrs! Are We Finally Getting Costco Near Crossgates?
The plan to build a Costco Wholesale store near Crossgates Mall has been in the works for three years. There has been a lot of resistance and red tape but now there is a major development that could get the wholesale store built.
Costco Could Get the Go-Ahead in Guilderland
For the first time since the owner of Crossgates Mall asked to build the first Costco, which was three years ago, it will be put in front of the Guilderland Planning Board. The vote is necessary for the project to be built.
Where Will the Costco Be Built?
The Guilderland Planning Board will vote on the plan for the one hundred sixty-three thousand square foot Costco store, a gas station with eighteen pumps, and room for seven hundred seventy-seven parking spaces according to the Albany Business Review. It would be built near the intersection of Western Ave, Johnston Road, and Crossgates Mall Road.
Why Was There a Delay?
There were two lawsuits regarding environmental impacts but were later dismissed in favor of the builder and the town of Guilderland. Also, there was more time needed for a traffic study and traffic pattern revisions. Construction will begin in early April on a roundabout where the Northway exit and entrance to the mall are.
The site plans will go before the Guilderland Planning Board on March 22nd. If the plans get approved and Costco is built, it would be the first one in the area.
