1. Corning Tower Observation Deck

If you've lived in the Capital Region all your life and have yet to take in this breathtaking view, put it on your bucket list. From 42 stories up, you can take in an amazing perspective of Albany, the Hudson River and the Catskills. The observation deck is free and open weekdays from 10-4.

2. Professional Rodeo

No, you don't have to travel to Texas to take in an authentic rodeo. But you will have to act quick. The Double M Rodeo in Malta announced the summer of 2022 will be its last season. You can also head up to Lake Luzerne to The Painted Pony Rodeo, their season begins in July.

3. Via Aquarium

Before it opened in 2016, Boston was the closest place to see aquatic creatures in an aquarium setting. Via Aquarium features over 2000 sea creatures of more than 250 different species and is located inside ViaPort Rotterdam.

4. Howe Caverns

Ever wonder what the earth looks like about fourteen stories beneath the surface? A 45 minute drive west of Albany to Howe Caverns in Schoharie County can get you a tour of some incredible caves and underground rivers.

5. Dirt Racing

Just remember to bring ear plugs. Summertime means you can head out to the dirt track at Lebanon Valley, Fonda Speedway or Albany-Saratoga Speedway to see many different kinds of auto racing right here in the Capital Region.

6. Horse Racing

Quite possibly the biggest tourist attraction of the area. Saratoga Race Course offers up thoroughbred racing every summer in July and August. The harness track has racing February through December.

7. New York State Capitol Building

The state Capitol is an incredible piece of architecture and daily guided tours are available free of charge. In October haunted tours are offered as the building is believed to be inhabited by the spirit of a night watchman who died during a massive fire in 1911.

8. USS Slater

The only remaining ship of its kind. The USS Slater was used in the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II as a destroyer escort. It sits in the Hudson River just north of the Port of Albany. The Slater is open for tours from April through November.
