Lots of talks surrounding bringing a "horse park" to the Capital Region, but not much has successfully formed from those talks.  However, all weekend, there will be a horse and tack expo at the Saratoga Race Course to help raise money to build the horse park -- an attraction that could bring in at $656,000 annually for Saratoga County if they were able to back the funding for such a venue.

The New York Horse Park, Inc. needs $8 million  to build a horse park here in the Capital Region.  They've already placed their eye on a 600 acre plot between exits 15 and 16 of the Northway, in Saratoga.  The New York Horse Park, Inc. will try to raise $6 million by 2013, the 150th anniversary of Saratoga Race Course by hosting different events, including this expo this weekend.  The actual park would feature an indoor arena that can seat up to 6,000 people and host different types of equestrian competitions, very much like the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

The expo will feature lots of different vendors, demonstrations, food, games for the kids, and education about the horse park.  It's just $5 for adults; $10 for a family; and children under the age of 12 are free.  The horse and tack expo will be  between the hours of 10am and 6pm Saturday and 10am and 5pm Sunday.  Just head to the Carousel Pavilion in the grandstand of Saratoga Race Course, off Union Avenue.
