Heat Wave Could Bring Power Outages – Tips To Conserve Energy
With temperatures expected to reach close to 100 degrees this weekend, power outages are likely.
In what we are calling a heat wave this weekend, there is the potential of power outages. I know, I’m not sure I really ever saw the connection either, but it’s true.
Here’s the deal. When it’s really hot, like it is now, utility usage tends to increase. People are inside with the air conditioners on because it’s too hot to be outside. In turn, the TV gets turned on and the lights get turned on or the computer is plugged in. All of these things that we usually are not doing because we are outside puts a strain on the power grid. That’s what leads to power outages in the extreme heat!
Makes sense now, right? Governor Cuomo put out these tips so we can all do our part to keep the power on during this latest heat wave!
Energy Saving Tips:
- Set your air conditioner thermostat no lower than 78 degrees.
- Only use the air conditioner when you are home.
- Turn non-essential appliances off. Only use appliances that have heavy electrical loads early in the morning or very late at night.
Be careful these next couple of days, and remember to keep hydrated…pets too!
