We are all affected by the heat including fish. New York state officials are asking for fishermen to spare a certain kind of fish during the heat wave. It is fun to fish in the area lakes, rivers and streams. But New York state environmental officials are asking you to spare trout and fish for other species.

According to News 10 ABC, cold water fish like trout and salmon don't bode well in water above 70 degrees. These fish look for pockets of cooler water to stay in that are created by springs. If you are going to fish, you are asked to not disturb these fish that are gathered in high numbers because they are seeking cooler waters and relief from heat stress.

The Department of Environmental Conservation is asking those who are fishing to not even do catch and release with the trout because it doesn't matter how carefully they are handled they still may not survive during this time.
