Greenwich Rocks & Chatham Rolls In Saturday Football Recap
Saturday was a light but important day on the high school gridiron in Section 2. Ten teams suited up for a warm day of football, featuring one ranked battle in Voorheesville. Plus, we have some unreported Friday night scores in the recap.
Let's started with the battle of the Witches and the Blackbirds in Voorheesville. #18 Greenwich and #17 Vooheesville came in with 1-1 records. The difference in the game came in the 4th quarter with just over 3 minutes remaining. Greenwich's freshman quarterback Ryan Ingber, who according to James Allen of timesunion.com, was called up from the JV squad last week because of an injury to the Witches starting QB, ran for a 30-yard touchdown. The cool thing was, Ingber initially ran to the left side of the field. When he found he had nowhere to run, he reversed his course and ran down the right side for the decisive score and a 17-14 victory for the Witches. Ingber had two rushing touchdowns on the day.
Road teams were not too kind to their hosts on Saturday, Chatham pasted Corinth on their home field 43-6, while Scotia-Glenville rolled Cohoes 29-6. In some unreported action from Friday night, #6 Shenendehowa rolled Schenectady 47-12, while #12 Burnt-Hills-Ballston Lake shut-out #14 Averill Park 21-0 at Averill Park. Mechanicville had their offense in full gear against Watervliet in their 41-8 victory. Finally, Cobleskill-Richmondville shut out Coxsackie-Athens 35-0. Those are the scores we have.
