Big Weekend In Capital Region High School Football – Who Won?
As the first week of school was behind the students and the realities of the fall season began to sink in, fifty-two Section 2 high school football teams were preparing to play! There were 19 Friday night match-ups with another 7 on Saturday. For most programs, it was their first week of game action.
On Friday night, #1 CBA knocked off #12 Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 23-6. CBA travels to #2 Shaker this Friday night. #4 Stillwater gave it to Watervliet 56-6. Stillwater will face #10 Hoosick Falls/Tamarac on Friday. #5 Ravena pounded #23 Schalmont 48-6, while #6 Shenendehowa defeated #19 LaSalle Academy 35-12. #7 Guilderland got by #14 Averill Park pretty easily 42-20, while #9 Fonda-Fultonville plowed Taconic Hills 57-8. There was more action Friday night!
That action continued as #13 Ballston Spa smacked Colonie 43-6, while #15 Gloversville beat Green Tech 42-24. #16 Cambridge-Salem pumped Chatham 40-6. #17 Voorheesville pitched a shut-out against Corinth/Fort Edward/Hadley-Luzerne 41-0, while #18 Greenwich did the same to Cairo-Durham/Catskill 27-0. In the rest of the action Friday, Bethlehem knocked off Columbia 34-22 and Johnstown beat Coxsackie-Athens 35-0, while Mohonasen beat South Glens Falls 26-6. Broadalbin-Perth shutout Icabod Crane 33-0, as Mechanicville did the same to Rensselaer/Loudonville Christian 49-0.
Finally on Saturday, #2 Schuylerville shutout #10 Hoosick Falls/Tamarac 28-0, while #3 Shaker pounded #21 Queensbury 54-16. #8 Glens Falls beat #25 Lansingburgh 33-7, as #20 Warrensburg/North Warren Central/Lake George crushed Granville/Whitehall 65-0. In other non-ranked action Saturday Troy beat Albany 14-7. Canajoharie/Fort Plain defeated Berne-Knox-Westerlo/Duanesburg 18-15 and Scotia-Glenville got by Hudson Falls 27-22.
