Country star Lee Brice paid a visit to the Capital Region a little over a week ago, but this show, this event was a little different.  Unlike previous performances in our area, this one came with very little hype and hardly any fanfare, yet made an indelible mark on the few Capital Region residents in attendance and left one local young woman completely awestruck.

On Sunday night September 27th, Lee Brice played for a very small crowd during a Folds of Honor fundraiser show in Slingerlands.  The event was a smashing success as the 50 or so people in attendance - along with Brice - helped raise enough money to provide at least 30 scholarships to local kids of fallen military parents.

But on this night, Brice would go above and beyond the call of duty doing something that was completely out of the norm, and out of the blue.

In attendance on this night was 22-year-old singer/songwriter Riley Williams from North Chatham.  Unbeknownst to her, friends had written a message on a napkin for Lee to see while he was singing. The napkin had the title of Lee Brice's "I Hope You're Happy Now" with an arrow pointing to Riley.  The song has been a smash for both Carly Pearce and Lee Brice, as the two of them together took that song to #1.

The sound guy saw what was written on the note before Brice himself could read it, and it appeared as though the guy at mixing board was not going to let it happen.  But then Brice caught wind of what was going on, saw the note and said, "Well come on girl get up here!"

And this incredible moment is what happened next:

Lee Brice is not only one of country music's most powerful and relatable singer/songwriters; he's a patriot, family man, and all around good guy and he proved it once again with his tremendous efforts for the Folds of Honor charity, and for taking the time to really impact the young singer's life.

Williams' family tells me that they later learned that Brice had never done anything like that before, ever.  They also told me that the two had a long chat after and even exchanged emails.

Riley's mom Cherie, beamed with pride and excitement as she shared with me the details of that incredible, impromptu moment.  Cherie was equally as proud thinking about all of the money that Brice helped raise that evening for such a worthy cause.

She may have put it best when she said, "It's a whole lot of wow, gratitude, and love for the power of music!"
