We haven't even started the winter yet and it's already been bitter cold. It looks as if we are in for a long cold, snowy winter. There are millions of dollars available in heating assistance for all New Yorkers that qualify. According to CBS 6 News, under the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), New Yorkers can receive millions of dollars to help pay their heat bills this winter. HEAP was created to assists those who qualify to survive winter in New York state.

New York State Electric and Gas along with other utility companies are urging residents to enroll for heating assistance. The millions of dollars available across New York state depends on eligibility. It is based on income, the household size, the primary heating source, and the ages of the members within the household. If there are kids under the age of six and adults older than sixty or permanently disabled residents.

The Home Energy Assistance Program helps low-income people pay the cost of heating their homes. The utilities NYSEG and RG&E reminded customers Tuesday that enrollment for New York's HEAP program is now open.
