Last night's Game 1 between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Rangers was truly one for the ages.  There is nothing quite like playoff hockey in the National Hockey League.  The NHL always delivers and the play and intensity is just on another level when the postseason rolls around.  I honestly hope that this series goes seven games because as a fan you just want to watch these teams battle it out until the very end just like they did last night at Madison Square Garden.

MJ and I talked about what we say in Game 1 one earlier this morning on Big Board Sports.  Below is our full conversation on this.

The Penguins won the game 4-3 in triple overtime which is absolutely insane.  You had the Garden rocking and everything you want in an NHL playoff game.  The Rangers jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind goals from Adam Fox and Andrew Copp.  The Penguins then quickly tied it behind two Jake Guentzel goals.

Chris Kreider who has been scoring all season long followed that up by an awesome break away goal to put the Rangers back on top.  But shortly after that, Brian Rust tied the game 3-3 and it remained that way until triple overtime.  There was no scoring for the third period, first OT, and second OT.

The Penguins even had a goalie change midway through the second overtime.  Casey DeSmith exited with a lower body injury and Louis Domingue came in to relieve.  He stepped up huge in a major moment during the game.  Evgeni Malkin tipped in the game winner to silence the Rangers faithful.  Igor Shesterkin was incredible as he saved 79 of the 83 shots he faced.  Please give me six more games of the Penguins vs Rangers as Game 1 was an instant classic and thriller.
