2024 and the first half of 2025 were full of mostly national retail chains closing local locations.

Rite Aid, Dollar General, and JOANN are just a few of the national chains that closed Capital Region locations recently. They are among a long list of national chains that have closed locations due to bankruptcy or financial restructurings.

Shoe Dept. In Clifton Park Closes

On a recent shopping trip this week to Clifton Park Center, my family noticed the Shoe Dept. store had taken down its sign. A closer look revealed has closed its doors for good. The above sign was posted on its door, revealing they closed for good this past Sunday, July 13th.

The good news is that there are several other Capital Region Shoe Dept. locations, including Rotterdam, Cobleskill, and Rensselaer, which remain open. The information left at the Clifton Park store directs customers to these other locations, which will honor any returns and reward points.
