Over the weekend, my eight-year-old, Ryan, tried something new. He danced on the stage in front of a thousand people with his friends in a dance recital. Some people were surprised when I told them that he was going to be in a recital, but we want him to try everything. It's funny that some people raised eyebrows and were confused to why we would put our son in a dance class. First of all, our business, second of all, we just want him to be able to experience everything. He and his friends, all boys, were to be the only all-boy class to be in the recital.

He and his friends have been taking dance classes for months at the Art In Motion Dance Academy. There were twelve boys ages 6 through 10 learning a hip-hop dance from a male instructor. They put in hours of practice and on Saturday they performed amongst all of the other female groups at the Palace in front of a thousand proud parents and family.

I think Ryan got a lot out of doing this dance. Not only did he learn how to dance as part of a group, but he also worked on coordination, teamwork and the fear of getting on stage in front of a lot of people. We are so proud of him and his dance group.
