The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is one of the defining pieces of American horror. The film follows a group of young adults on a road trip across Texas when they find themselves being hunted by a mysterious man who attacks them with nothing other than chainsaws.

While the film was marketed as a "true" story, the plot itself is little more than the musings of writer/director Tobe Hooper. Unfortunately, one New York man didn't receive that memo.

How Do You Start a Chainsaw Fight?

This event occurred on August 28th, in Fulton, a small town in Schoharie County 40 minutes outside of Albany. While details are muddled, it seems this all started with a verbal dispute between James Mastenbrook and his roommate.

This escalated quickly, as Mastenbrook whipped out a chainsaw, and began revving it near his roommate's dog, Paisley. The dog was unharmed, but this was enough to take the fight outside, where somewhat of a swordfight began between the two.

The Fight & Aftermath

The fight outdoors was a short one, but one neither will likely soon forget. While Mastenbrook attacked with his chainsaw, his roommate attempted to defend himself with a (sheathed) knife. He alleged that Mastenbrook hit him twice with the makeshift weapon, suffering only minor cuts and bruises.

The two were picked up at 3 p.m. that same day. Mastenbrook is facing second-degree felony assault, while his roommate is facing second-degree menacing, which is nothing more than a misdemeanor. Mastenbrook is currently awaiting trial with a temporary extreme risk protection order placed upon him. His roommate was let go with an appearance ticket.
