There's a weird fascination with disaster around the holidays. Sure, there's hundreds of feel-good Christmas movies, but there's plenty of classics that are all about disaster striking the day.

From Home Alone's home invasion, to literally killing Santa Claus in The Santa Clause, we have a morbid fascination with horrible things happening on the happiest day of the year. Turns out, the universe wanted in on that.

Santa's Wonderland Express

This all starts with a train, specifically, Santa's Wonderland Express. This is a Holiday-themed train that runs from Arcade to the "North Pole" (Currier's Station). Along the way, guests can fill out a wish list for Santa, and prepare themselves to meet the big jolly elf.

Once you arrive at the North pole, Santa will be waiting for you along with various other activities like face-painting, family photos, and more. Unfortunately for one group of travelers, they got more than they bargained for.

Car Crash on the Way to the North Pole

On the night of December 11th, the Wonderland Train was making its rounds across New York when it was struck by a car crossing Chaffee Road. The crash was, obviously, not on purpose. The railroad engineer stated it was likely due to icy conditions on the road, not giving the driver enough time to slow down.

Luckily, of the 174 passengers on the train and one driver, no one was injured. Despite the minor setback, the train was still able to make it to the North Pole on schedule, and if that seems shocking, you've obviously never seen The Polar Express.

Canadian Pacific Holiday Train Rolls Through The Capital Region For a Great Cause

It had been three years since the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train rolled through the Capital Region. It made three stops; Mechanicville, Saratoga Springs, and Fort Edward. The first was Mechanicville on a rainy Sunday night. This is where I enjoyed the festive holiday train. They are traveling across the country to 106 stops. At each stop, they play live music and collect donations for the local food banks. Country Artist Lindsay Ell was the musical entertainment and she was awesome. The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train also presented the Mechanicville Community Center with a check for $3500 to help restock the food bank. Even though the weather wasn't ideal, a couple of hundred families joined the fun.
