There is an elementary school in the Capital Region that is without a 5th-grade teacher this morning after being arrested. The teacher apparently had an alleged hidden camera in the staff bathroom and captured over thirty images.
What Did Police Find?
The Colonie Police Department said that a South Colonie teacher at Sand Creek Elementary School had been arrested according to News 10 ABC. Fifth-grade teacher Patrick Morgan allegedly put a hidden camera inside the staff bathroom. The camera looked like a cell phone charger and many of the staff members have been identified in the footage. It was placed in a co-ed faculty bathroom. There are over thirty pictures of both men and women on the device.
Who is the 5th Grade Teacher?
Patrick Morgan has been teaching at Sand Creek Elementary School for nearly thirty years. Police say they were able to figure out it was Morgan because they uncovered previously deleted videos that showed Morgan learning how to use the camera properly. Morgan is from the city of Frankfort, New York between Binghamton and Utica.
What Happens Now?
Patrick Morgan was arrested and taken into custody. He has been charged with two felonies. Two counts of unlawful surveillance in the second degree. More charges will likely follow according to the Colonie Police. The investigation continues.
My Feelings on This Teacher
I don't know about other parents, but when I first saw this story I immediately thought of my son. He's in the fifth grade. I know that this man had the camera set up in the staff bathroom, but it turned my stomach to think he did that in the staff room and then went about his day teaching these young children knowing what he had done. I also feel for the other teachers who have worked with him over the years. A thirty-year teaching career is a long time to be doing this. Who knows how long this has been going on?
