Saratoga County is going against the grain and giving property owners a little bit of relief.

If you are a homeowner, you have certainly heard stories about local governments raising property taxes to make up for budget shortfalls during the pandemic. It is an annoying, yet expected inconvenience of this crazy year. But for Saratoga County residents, the opposite is happening.

According to a story from the Saratogian, property taxes in Saratoga are actually being reduced a little bit in 2021. The county tax rate is being reduced from $2.26 per $1,000 to $2.23 per $1,000 (One of the lowest in the state!) which amounts to about a $9 reduction on a $300,000 home, says the Saratogian.

So on the surface, this tax cut does not seem like much, If you save $9 in a year, it is not a big deal. But, when taxes do go up, we are quick to criticize officials. So actually having them go down during what has been a challenging time, a little kudos is in order. The Saratogian says effective management of expenses has helped, but so has a growth of $1.4 Billion in taxes paid due to a period of great growth in Saratoga Country

So in essence, lots of people are moving to the area which is leading to more revenue for the County. Gee, maybe that s because it has one of the lowest tax rates in the state! Maybe other counties should watch what is happening in Saratoga!
