Upstate New York Lake Named Second Best Ice Fishing Spot In America
Growing up in Florida and Georgia, I obviously took up fishing. There was nothing better than hitting the Gulf of Mexico, casting a line with some buddies, and wasting the day away.
Ice Fishing, on the other hand, is completely alien to me. That's why it's a stroke of luck that one of the best spots for it in America is right in our backyard.

The Best Ice Fishing This Side of the Mississippi
A recent report from FishingBooker looked at the best spots for Ice Fishing in America, and an Upstate New York staple didn't just make the list; it summited it. Oneida Lake, just south of Syracuse, was ranked the second best spot for the sport in America.
This is the largest lake entirely contained within New York State, and its shallow basin makes the body of water perfect for winter activity below the ice.
What Should You Know About the Lake?
As we get into the midst of winter up here, you may want to take a trip down to Oneida Lake to do some fishing for yourself. The two biggest catches the lake offers are Walleye and Yellow Perch, which come in abundance this time of year. If you have the patience (and warmth), you'll have no trouble reeling these guys in.
If you're in the area and want to get off the lake for a bit, no worries. There is plenty to do in the surrounding communities, from hiking trails to quaint, family owned restaurants. If you're a fan of the sport, and haven't been yet, pack your bags, because you won't get an experience like this anywhere else in America (except for #1 ranked Brainerd, Minnesota, but that takes away from my point).
