Artists Wanted! Glens Falls Looking to Literally Paint the Town!
In an effort to beautify the city and highlight the arts, Glens Falls is looking for artists to paint the town. Literally, there is a project in the works to paint murals on various buildings around the city.
Who and What Are They Looking For?
The Arts District of Glens Falls created a project to find local artists interested in Designing and painting murals on the sides of buildings in downtown Glens Falls. Artists who apply must include their resumes and a list of prior projects and experience. Although other public art experience is not necessarily required. Artists interested must include sketches of the concept they wish to create on the side of the building.
What Would the Artists Need to Provide if Selected?
If the artist's mural is selected they would be required to provide their own paint and other materials needed. But they would be reimbursed and paid for their work anywhere between $10,000 and $20,000 depending on how large and involved it is.
Which Buildings Would the Murals be Painted On?
Although it's not official, there are a few buildings in downtown Glens Falls that may be selected. Artists can propose a building they wish to paint on but it is not guaranteed it will be the one. They are:
144 Glen Street
164 Glen Street
The World Awareness Children's Museum on Warren Street
Apostolic Christian Fellowship at 103 Warren Street
20 Warren Street
When Do Submissions Have to Be In?
Mural proposals must be mailed in or hand-delivered to The Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council (LARAC) according to News 10. They are located at 7 Lapham Place Glens Falls, NY 12801. You can also email your submission to artdistrictgf@gmail.com. The deadline is 3 pm on March 31st. Artist selection will begin on April 12th and the tentative start date will be late April through May. For more info click HERE.
