Are The Oakland Athletics A Good Fit For Kevin Smith?
The MLB free agency and trade moves have been wild of the course of the last few days. Their have been several blockbuster trades such as Freddie Freeman, Matt Olsen, Chris Bassitt, Kris Bryant and others. But the one I'm most intrigued about is local product Kevin Smith getting traded to the Oakland Athletics for their third baseman Matt Chapman who is heading to the Toronto Blue Jays. We love to localize national stories here on Big Board Sports. I think Kevin Smith with thrive in Oakland and become an efficient starter. Here is my quick take on this from the Times Union:
It’s the opportunity Kevin Smith has been patiently waiting for, and I expect KJ to take full advantage of his trade to the Oakland Athletics. The former Columbia High School standout was traded from Toronto to Oakland, and barring the unforeseen, the 25 year old Smith will be the starting third baseman for the A’s on opening day in Philadelphia. Kevin was a fourth round pick of the Jays in 2017 and he’s climbed the ladder with hard work and dedication and incredible talent. The wait is over for Smith, he will get his big chance to be an everyday player in Major League Baseball.
Michael Johnson Jr and I had a conversation on this yesterday right at the top of our show just a the news broke live. Below is our full discussion on the Kevin Smith trade.
I am happy for Kevin Smith and the entire Smith family. He will be ready for Oakland and come opening day on April 8th should be a starter. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a local product succeed on the national scene.
