Another One in Upstate New York Charged with Animal Abuse
Another Heartbreaking Animal Abuse Case
There's nothing more heartbreaking than reading or hearing about a situation where innocent animals are neglected, abandoned, or worse, tortured.
Unfortunately, it's all too common in New York State, but on the flip side, it's important to call these people out so they may never own a pet again.
What Did State Police Find?
The latest in New York State happened in Steuben County, about 3.5 hours southwest of Albany. According to the Wayne County Journal, New York State Police received a complaint on December 28th about a dog left inside the residence.
Upon investigation, the dog was found malnourished and without proper care; his neglectful owner was 45-year-old Chad Alfano from Prattsburgh, NY. The Steuben County Dog Control Officer was called to the scene and safely removed the animal.
Alfano was charged with torturing or injuring animals and failing to provide sustenance, a misdemeanor under New York State law, and was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Prattsburgh Town Court later this year.
What To Do If You Witness Animal Cruelty
If you witness animal cruelty or believe an animal is in danger, report the matter immediately to local law enforcement and your local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or other humane enforcement agencies.
Over a decade ago, the Albany County Animal Abuser Registry was created by an act of the Albany County Legislature known as Local Law K. The registry, hosted by the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, is a service to the public.
The following people seen on this list have been convicted of animal cruelty. While it's unclear exactly what they're guilty of, one thing is clear: They are not allowed to own, possess, reside, have custody of, or intentionally engage in physical contact with any animal. Period.
