Drome Sound is located at 1875 State Street in Schenectady and has been a part of the city since 1968. Drome Sound sold instruments, did repairs, and connected musicians and music enthusiasts from all over. Richard Parks and his wife Nancy own Drome Sound and they say their decision to close is bittersweet.

According to the Albany Business Review, Richard Parks has a deep connection with Drone Sound. He started selling instruments and opened the retail side of the business in the 1970s. He then took a management job at Guitar Center and wound up selling Drome Sound in 2015 for a brief time. Then he ultimately bought back the business. There were plenty of ups and downs along with online competition, and the pandemic so he is ready to retire.

When Will Drome Sound Close Its Doors?

There is no definitive closing date and little by little it is selling off its inventory. There is a "Going Out Of Business" sale happening now. Parks hopes to close by the end of the year.

Drome Sound will forever be remembered as a place where music lovers, young and old, found not just instruments but also a sense of community and passion for music.
